Jackrabbits and Housework

With cooler temps and lower humidity, I had a fantastic run this morning. I ran to Hermann Park and Rice University, which I hadn't done for awhile, and I think there's a waterbird migration of some sort going on because I saw a lot of birds on the bayou along the way. I ended up doing sixteen miles and felt like I could’ve run forever, had I not started late and run out of time. It was nearly 11:00 when I got home, too late to rake the leaves in the front yard, so I guess that will have to go onto tomorrow’s to-do list.

On the way home from having Indian food, Dan and I stopped at a moving sale where they were selling some gorgeous Old Mexico-style carved wooden furniture. It was totally wrong for our décor, but it was wonderful stuff. I contented myself by buying a bowl with a jackrabbit theme. Tidbit approved.

I read with interest the news story this week about how cleaning products trigger asthma. It confirmed what I suspected this past August when we were moving and I was spending so much time cleaning and scrubbing things. I had some of my worst asthma attacks ever during that time period and had wondered since if it was the cleaning that did it. Now that my suspicion is confirmed, I have an excuse that will last me the rest of my life! And no, I don't want to hear about how to clean things using baking soda and vinegar. Just let me revel in my new-found justification for laziness, okay?

to help you revel in your new found laziness ... isn't it the dust and crud that's getting stirred up too? my asthma gets really horrid when i clean but if i leave the dust where it is it doesn't bother me at all!
great bowl!

Yes, there is absolutely something about stirring up the dust that's so not good. At our old place, everything was carpeted and I had my only athsma attack that required going to the emergency room when I tried to vaccum. I never vaccumed again after that. It was Dan's job, or it just didn't get done.

We have hardwoods at the new place and I'm just stunned at the amount of dust and bunny fur, and how fast it accumulates. But since I can actually see it (unlike with a light-colored carpet) I can stay on top of it pretty easily.

The bowl is great. I love that sort of thing.

My mom's asthma and my allergies keeps me looking for cleaning products that don't make us ill. There are a couple of things I'm hoping to get one day. One is a handheld pressure steamer that cleans w/steam, not chemicals. Also there's a newfangled thing I saw on HGTV that super-oxygenates plain water or something so it can be used for cleaning without chemicals. It sounds like magic, but if it really works I'm all for it!

The weather here in Michigan is perfect for my running tastes-- cold and dry. I ran 10 miles on Saturday and started out when it was about 40 degrees and it felt wonderful. I just love those long runs where you barely even feel tired. I am fervently hoping for more of the same (both weather-wise and endurance-wise) come next Sunday when I will be running my first half marathon.

I'm sure you are happy the humidity seems to have moved on--for now. Those birds are probably trying to escape the great white north (it will be soon). As for the cleaning products, I know certain ones bother my breathing, and I don't even have asthma. I do use Shaklee's Basic H for a lot of stuff though--no smell--just in case you get the urge to clean again.
