The Great Hay Test - Part 2

The results are in! Orchard grass it is, with oat hay a close second:

I was surprised by this, since I was sure he'd be all over that botanical hay. But who knows what goes through the minds of bunnies?

My own taste test was of this apricot bread recipe. It was clear from reading the recipe that it would not be a very sweet bread, and my taste of the batter confirmed it, so I added some stevia and honey. Even so, the result was a little less sweet and not as apricoty as I would've liked.

But I'm going to try this recipe again because no sooner had I put the bread into the oven last night than I remembered I had an unopened jar of apricot preserves in the cupboard. Wouldn't some of that be great mixed in? Yeah, I thought so, too. So I'll be making this bread again soon, with some modifications. I'll be sure to share the results!

And as an aside, I'm getting a bit tired of having to go to so many retirement parties at work. There seems to be a wave of them right now and while I don't mind dropping by and wishing my friends well and even speaking on their behalf, I can't help wondering if it's a university requirement that sesame-coated bits of chicken on sticks be served at these functions. Ditto the scary-looking red punch. Thank goodness it's always a buffet and I can opt out!

Hmmm, orchard grass sounds scrumptious to me, and I'm not even a bunny! Sounds like Cadbury has excellent taste. :)

Mmmm, apricot! Thanks for the heads up on another yummy-sounding recipe.

Always wonder what the heck is in that red punch....

Glad to hear Cadbury has made a choice. Perhaps orchard grass is more tender?

Oh my gosh you have a new bunny! We have missed so much. Must catch up! Welcome to Cadbury!

Guessing what bunnies like must be hard; good for you for actually experimenting to find out!

I've heard that dog food and cat food are often in flavors that humans think sound appealing rather than flavors that the animals would prefer. But "rat flavored Friskies" just doesn't go over as well with the humans making the purchasing decision I guess.

We keep three different kinds of hay in stock, just in case tastes change! Apricot Bread looks yummy. I just made a Lacto Fermented version of the scary red punch, but it is red from Hibiscus and Rose Hips, looks exactly the same, doesn't taste the same.

Here in The House of Rabbits, it was just this evening that Bunny Lady said I needed to go with her to look at a different bale of hay ... SHE does not care for the last one ... stalks are too long and too dry. Seems to me the bunns are eating it!

Fortunately we live where lots of hay is grown and cutting is going on often so a different bale stashed in the old barn is OK .. the unused covers the dirt floor or goes in the compost pile.

Still ....
