Hey, everyone! For those of you who followed my vacation blog in 2009, do you remember when I got this on a street corner in Santa Fe?

Well, check out this story. It's a real worldwide movement!

Monday Bunday: Home!

Dan, Audrey and I got home late Friday afternoon and spent the weekend recuperating. Here we see Audrey and Cadbury catching up over a little snack, while she tells him of her adventures.

I hope all my friends have been having good adventures too. I've kept up with blog-reading, but my wi-fi access was often spotty and I used my limited service for updating the vacation blog. When time and service permitted, I read my blog feeds on my BlackBerry, but haven't figured out how to leave comments via the BlackBerry yet.

Anyway, we're home, and it's the start of a brand new week. I hope everyone has a good one! Audrey will soon be returning to Glenna, who has some exciting things planned for her, including a trip to Cape Cod. Lucky bunny!

Monday Bunday: Vacation Plans

Just one more week until vacation, peeps!

Cadbury: I can't believe my bipeds are going on vacation without me. They say Uncle Wesley from a few blocks over is going to stay here with me, and I like him and all, but...

Bunnygirl: Don't worry, Cadbury. We'll be back. "Uncle" Wesley has two bunnies and knows what you need. Besides, we're doing him a favor. He's been out of work for awhile and is having some problems with his wife. He can make a little money by watching our house, and by staying here instead of with his parents in the Woodlands, he'll be close to his children. Isn't that nice?

Cadbury: When you put it that way...when are you going, again?

Bunnygirl: Next Saturday. But don't you worry. "Uncle" Wesley will be right here in the house with you, looking after you the whole time we're away. And if you're extra good, he'll share our vacation postings with you.

Friends, if you don't have my vacation blog bookmarked, go ahead and do it now and beat the rush: Bunnygirl's Vacation Blog

Good News!

It turns out there is a way to get around the comps issue, but it isn't the way everyone was telling me to do it. There is a particular real estate agent in our neighborhood who knows how to make these deals go through even when there haven't been sales of comparable nearby homes for the appraiser to use as a basis of value.

I don't know if I can still get the conventional loan in time, and I'm frustrated that I might lose out on my sweet 5% interest rate, but the home purchase will go forward, regardless. I've made inquiries to two lenders, and if neither can come through for me in the time remaining, I'll sign directly with the owner and refinance as soon as I have the money, enlisting the services of the savvy real estate agent on a contract basis. If no major expenses come up, I'll be ready to refinance by next year. If some big expense does come up, I can rent out my garage apartment (bye, workout studio!) and be ready to refinance in two years.

As an extra bonus of good news, we've secured a bunny-savvy house-sitter for while we're on vacation! Cadbury hasn't indicated whether or not he's disappointed that he won't be spending two weeks at the vet spa this year, but something tells me he's going to be much happier in his own home. As will Dan and I, once we've signed this deal.

Announcement!

Saturday morning, Dan and I will be on the open road! While we're gone, Cadbury and Pixel will be staying at the vet spa, where they will be indulged with treats and pedicures.

As in previous years, you can follow my vacation on my Vacation Blog, where I'll be posting nightly, unless we do some camping.

As an added treat this year, my fictional band Maelstrom will be going on tour, with an itinerary that roughly follows my own. The band members will be doing daily posts of their own at the Maelstrom Website.

See you in two weeks, everyone!

Quick Link and True Story

Just a quick note that I've got a true story from one of my vacations posted over on my writing blog as my contribution to this weekend's Sunday Scribblings. It's one of those "odd coincidence" stories of the sort that make you think no way can the universe be random because what are the odds of something like this happening?

On Vacation

My first day of vacation and my first day between jobs! And I was insanely busy all day, running last-minute errands, preparing road food, packing and staging things we’re taking, and cleaning the house so we don’t look like total slobs to our friend who will be feeding the cat while we’re away.

Tid will be boarding with her vet while we’re gone. I know it’s going to be very confusing to her and I feel bad because she’s almost 100% again. I think it will be for the best though, and they do like her over there. Tidbit is a very sweet and friendly girl. Pixel will miss her, especially since he’ll be stuck here all alone, but he’ll enjoy watching birds out the windows and taking long naps, or whatever it is he does all day.

I hope to be able to blog from the road. We want to do more camping this year, so that would cut into my blogging time. During my absence, I’ll be posting my adventures to my Vacation Blog. Updates will be nightly when I’m at a place where I can log on. And since our first stop is San Angelo, where we’ll be staying at a hotel, the first vacation blog post will be Saturday night!

Have a great two weeks, friends. Thanks for all the support during our Tidbit Trials, and I look forward to catching up with everyone upon my return.

Tidbit Update

Well, we were told she was eating hay and throwing fits about being cooped up, so I went to pick Tidbit up today. Upon arriving home, she went into a corner and has refused to eat, drink, or use her litterbox since.

It looks like she pulled a fast one at the vet's in order to get sprung. She's not fooling us, though. Unless she makes some progress with either input, output, or both, it's back to the vet for her in the morning.

With our vacation starting in just one week, we're starting to have to think about contingency plans. Once I start my new job, I can't take vacation for six months, and Dan won't have another opportunity until December. If this rabbit doesn't start eating, we are so screwed.

Home Again!

We got home Saturday evening to find the power off, due to a storm. But after the light company repaired the transformer, we still didn’t have power because the lightning had caused a surge which blew out something here on the property. Luckily the apartment management called in an electrician right away, but by morning we still had no power. A good thing it wasn’t very hot! And a good thing we had some glow sticks! They’re cheap and you can set them all over your home to help you find your way around. They’re safer than candles, and the trick is to set them out as navigational guides, like night lights. Then use your lanterns, candles, or flashlights only in the room you happen to be in.

I got up early this morning, still no power, and thought I’d do a long run. But it didn’t go well. I’ve been having trouble breathing since we got back to Houston, and my lungs never cleared on this morning’s run. That wasn’t the whole problem, though. I think I was just more tired than I realized, because at around mile five I realized that I was just deeply exhausted, all the way through. I wanted to push myself to finish at least twelve miles, but I cut it short at nine.

I should know better. A similar thing happened a couple years ago when I got back from vacation and the very next morning went out on a ride where I suffered a major bonk under conditions that shouldn’t have been a problem. It’s funny how you don’t realize how tired you really are after a trip.

But I’m pretty proud of myself for keeping to an exercise schedule while I was on vacation. There were only two days when I didn’t run, hike, or work out in a hotel exercise room. I also got a deep tissue massage, and ate pretty healthy. I can’t get over how in the last few years, it’s gotten so much easier to get a fresh salad, vegetarian meals, and a hotel with a workout room, even in small towns!

While I was gone, my bike was at the shop, and after I test it out on the trainer tomorrow, I think I’ll be ready to hit the road! I got the rear wheel fixed, the chain and cog set replaced, and a general tune-up. So I should be road-worthy now. Anyone up for a ride? Next week, please. Or the week after. I’m tired.

My vacation posts are all up at my vacation blog.
